In English literature, you read books, analyze theories, and many other things. The main point of English literature is to have the ability to understand the deep meaning of text and the complexities.
There are four types of English literature which are poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and drama. Besides the general literature genres there are many more subgeneres some common subgenres are mystery, fantasy horror, romance, historical fiction, science fiction, folk lore, fairytales, and many more.
For poetry, students are going to create poetry and verses. It is used to invoke feeling and emotion into text also used to stir the creator's imagination with the rhythmic metaphors. Poetry literature prioritizes the structure form, rhythm & sound, figurative language, emotional & negative impact, and distinction from prose. Poetry structures can vary, the format could either be very strict or be able to freeform it. Poetries that require strict formatting are usually sonnet, villanelle, haiku, and sestina.

Sonnets require 14 lines, iambic pentameter, and specific rhyme schemes; for example shakespearean, ABAB CDCD EFEF GG.

Villanelle requires 19 lines; stanzas: five tercets followed by one quatrains; refrains: the first and third lines of the initial tercet (refrain a and refrain b) alternate as the last line of subsequent tercets.

Haiku is a short Japanese poem that consists of 3 lines, syllabus 5-7–5 pattern; traditionally focused on nature, seasons, and intends to evoke imagery related to the natural world; conciseness: haiku is known for being direct and straight forward, being able to convey a powerful message within a few words.

Sestina is a complex requiring 39 lines; stanza 1: requiring 6 lines each ending with a unique word; stanza 2-6: the following 5-
stanzas that use the same 6 end words in a specific, repeating order; envoi the concluding stanza: the final 3 lines, all of the six end words appear, with three at the ends of the words and three within the lines.
For Fiction, students will explore human experience by using their imagination. The point of this is to let students learn to imagine and visualize. Fiction prioritizes style of writing, characters, theme and diving into the complexities of human behaviour.
In Nonfiction, students will learn how to express and present some real information, they will study real & authentic information and write stories about it. Non fiction prioritizes vivid imagery, character development, compelling narratives, and factually accurate stories. Non fiction is used to immerse the readers and to enhance the reader's perspective as if they were experiencing the story themselves.
For drama, it is to improve the skills of expressing by acting. It prioritizes performance on stage through dialogue, script form, and stage directions. It is performance orientated, so in scripts, forms of emotions, actions, or setting are often highlighted in italics or parentheses. Drama literature is often categorized into various types. Some of the major drama types are comedy, typically prioritizing humour and engagement. Tragedy sequencing tragic events, a serious play, and typically having an unhappy ending. Famous literary drama examples are Shakespeare ; Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth

English Literature
English literature was produced from the 7th century to the present day. The major literatures written in English outside the British Isles are treated separately under American literature Australian literature Canadian literature, and New Zeeland literature.
Although English literature was isolated from the outside world, it shows its rich influences to the world. Also, the Celtic fringes and other parts of the world had enriched English literature. From the Anglo-Saxon era to the present days. English literature has kept on developing and evolving in the cultural, social, and political changes not only in England, but also all around the world.
With the influential writers who made the history of English literature rich, such as, William Sharkspeare, had been called the greatest writer in the English language. Also, another significant writer, Jane Austen, who was known for her writing of commentary and satire to the social community. Her novel “Pride and Prejudice” is an example of her commentary and satire to the social community.
The English language has formed the landscape of literature significantly in England. From 1350 to 1550, English competed with Latin and Anglo-Norman French, especially among the literate minority, and faced challenges due to its dialectal diversity.
However, a literary and linguistic revolution occurred between 1350 and 1400, making English a literary language. The Elizabethan era found the golden age of English literature, with William Shakespeare's plays achieving timeless depth and richness. The King James Version of the Bible had enriched English literature and spread it all over the world in 1611. Over the centuries, English literature has developed, combining diverse influences and addressing social concerns, solidifying its place as a major cultural expression.
English literature spans over a millennium, marked by distinct periods that mirror the country's evolving history and culture.
Anglo-Saxon Period
Old English literature includes many different works such as the epic poem Beowulf.
Middle English Period
The Norman Conquest in 1066, French influence formed Middle English literature. Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales and William Langland's Piers Plowman are significant works.
Elizabethan Era
The late 16th century saw a flowering of the European Renaissance in England. William Shakespeare's plays and the King James Bible recorded this golden age.
17th and 18th Centuries
Religious and political conflicts influenced poetry from John Donne to John Milton. The dichotomy of Classicism and Romanticism captured the 18th century, featuring writers like Alexander Pope, William Blake, and Jane Austen.
19th and 20th Centuries
English literature addressed social concerns, with regional influences from writers like the Brontë sisters and Charles Dickens. The 20th century saw writers such as Virginia Woolf, T.S. Eliot, and Salman Rushdie.
