Chemistry 10
Welcome to the Chemistry page. I will be only talking about Chemistry 10. This course is a development of what students had learned in grade 8 and grade 9. They will continue to explore more scientific skills, scientific knowledge, and their ability to think. The lessons they have learned in chemistry 8-9 will help students to continue chemistry in grade 10. Chemistry 8-9 are the foundations and students will learn more and develop more advanced lessons and understanding of chemistry 10.
What are students expected to know and do?
Students are expected to have the curiosity of science. Hopefully, students are curious about it and also interested in it so that they will have the motivation to learn. They also have to know how to make an observation by their own questions, even complicated questions to the natural world. They had already learned about observation in grade 8 and 9, but in grade 10, the observations they are making are going to be more advanced and they will lead up their observations to the natural world to sow their understanding to not only how to make observations, but also knowledge and what they see and observe from the natural world. They will have to make many different hypotheses and predict the different outcomes, which will invoke their thinking and their visualizing skills in a logical way. Next, they will have to collect data based on the lab they do, the data, including qualities and quantities.
What will students be learning?
They must know what equipment they are going to use and they also have to identify if they are safe, so they will have to know the safety rules. This is very important because students will be using some chemical acids or some material that could cause hazard, so knowing the safety rule is very important. Also, knowing and identifying the different equipments are important. This helps students to know what to do and what equipments they will be using when they are facing some accidents during the labs. The safety is very important. Furthermore, students should know how to collect and analyze data, making different types of graphs, and identifying the dependent variable and the independent variable. There are many labs that will require students to collect the data and analzing the data using different types of graph. So, it is very important that students know how to collect and organize data. Students will study about DNA structure and function, patterns and inheritance, mechanisms for the diversity of life, apply genetics and ethical considerations, rearrangements of atoms in chemical reactions, acid-base chemistry, energy change during chemical reactions, law of conservation of energy, potential and kinetic energy, nuclear energy and radiation, practical applications and implications of chemical processes including First People Knowledge, transformation of energy, local and global impacts of energy transformations from technologies, formation of universe, astronomical data and collect methods, including First Peoples knowledge.
Summary
In conclusion, this subject is important and students should take this course. From the last articles, we can tell how much we will gain from the Chemistry 10 and they are very useful. They include data collecting, formation of universe, mechanisms for diversity of life, chemistry reactions, safety rules, energy, and a lot more. In many careers, those could be required and important. They can help students to have more opportunities to try different jobs. They are also important for their connection to us, human. Taking this course is important as it helps students to take higher grades of chemistry or even steps into university as well as in careers.
